Honeymooning in Ireland May 2018

My fiancé and I will be traveling to Ireland for our honeymoon the beginning of May 2018. We already have our flights, rental car and lodging booked. We are staying 6 nights in Scarriff and 4 nights in Dublin. We plan on taking day trips while we are in Scarriff to surrounding areas. I've been reading into what to pack for the trip. The common theme is layers. I have started my amazon wish list and have a few items on there. At least one pair of jeans was recommended. I typically I tend to stay away from denim. Year round my wardrobe consists of dresses, cardigans and leggings to match the season (fleece lined in winter). Would this be appropriate attire for early May?

Another questions, my fiancé is a pilot and has been looking into various flying clubs about possibly renting a small airplane for a few hours. I've read online that a few flying clubs offer daily membership rates to be able to use their aircraft. Most of the items I have been finding range from 2004-2011 and may be a little outdated. Does anyone have any tips for us regarding renting a smaller plane?

Thank you for your time!

Regards,

Tiffany

Welcome to Michele's Forum -- and, Congratulations on your up-coming nuptials!  biggrin   biggrin

Can't help much on the pilot questions, but I CAN opine that the lough Derg area is a terrific location with LOTS on offer.  It's a favorite for my wife and I.    http://www.discoverloughderg.ie/

As to attire, what's appropriate depends more upon where you are from and what you are accustomed to.  My wife and I are long-time Florida residents, so we tend to wear warmer clothes on our visits to Ireland -- even during the summer months.  We've traveled with relatives who hail from Northern New York State, though and THEY were happy in shorts and short-sleeved shirts -- whilst we only occasionally were willing to forgo sweaters or fleece jackets.

Weather in Ireland is always unpredictable, but a good, rain-proof (and wind blocking) jacket is always a good choice.

Welcome to the forum and welcome to LoughDerg Lakelands.

What to wear? ask a couple of weeks before and it could be relative to where you are coming from

Pilot questions email Rose who handles Harbour flights rose@harbourflights.com and probably Birr flying Club ormandflyingclub.ie/ or try fergus@pipistrelaircraft.com

Give me some idea of what you are wanting to do (apart from fly) when in Scarriff and I'm just up the hill.

Congratulations! May is my favorite month in Ireland so you chose a good time to visit. Even though you generally wear dresses, I suggest at least one pair of pants or jeans. However, denim can take longer to dry if you get it wet. Ireland is generally a casual place so unless you plan on doing something formal - go casual.

Thanks to Tony for those local links! smile
