Dressing for June Weather

Hi all! My husband and I are making our first trip to Europe this summer, thanks to a friend getting married in London (low key wedding, skirt and top is fine). We'll be 4 days in London, 5 days in Paris and 8 days in Ireland (June 1 through 17th) and I'm trying to determine what kind of shoes and clothing we should bring.

Would it be warm enough for Capris by then? Was thinking of bringing a pair of slacks, a few pairs of Capris and a skirt.

Also, what kind of shoes would be best? What I have right now is a pair of dressy black Aravon walking shoes, brown Dansko clogs and brown Mephisto sandals (I have problem feet so need good support).. If it is too cool for sandals in early June, then not sure what I'd wear with the capris. Don't think I want to carry more than 2 shoes, but hard to find ones versatile enough for long hours walking, but look good with casual or dressy clothes, and can handle 3 - 4 hour guided walk through the Burren.

Oy, I am SO fashion challenged and am feeling at such a loss over what to pack. Any and all suggestions would be very welcome!

If I remember correctly, June temps are around 65-70 degree during the day. That said, that's exactly what our weather is like here in CA in January. So, I'll be wearing long pants and a light jacket. I tend to get cold easy. The best thing I think for travel is layers.

mrsboz99,

It sounds like you have a great trip planned. Irisheyes is right about the weather although it can be cooler. At night it will be cooler than that. In Ireland good walking shoes are a must. Depending on where you go and what you do, you will want shoes that you don't mind going through mud, puddles and cow & sheep droppings with. Sturdy walking shoes.

Take a look at my "Packing" page (click on the IrelandYes Index). It will clue you in on what to wear in Ireland.

My sister and I were in Ireland last June & we had packed according to all tips and suggestions online.....long pants, shirts & sweaters to layer, etc. We regretted that we hadn't packed capri's, cooler shirts and a pair of sandals.  Ireland was having exceptionally warm sunny weather in most areas.  We're going again this June and I'm sure we'll include a few warm-weather clothes just in case we encounter the same weather as last year.  We took jeans, khaki's and semi-dressy basic color pants that we could wear at least twice with different tops.  We're going to include a couple of dressy tops to go with the basic colored pants for dressier occasions.  I hope this helps you.

dixiedumplin,

Welcome to the forum! Thanks for the good advice about your last trip to Ireland. Warm sunshine is what every traveler to the Emerald Isle dreams of. You were fortunate to get it. My husband has worn shorts a few times in Ireland in the last 30 years. But more often it is long pants. Let's hope we all get good weather this year.

If you have any questions about your upcoming trip in June, feel free to post.

i have to add my joy at finally breaking out the shorts!!! today, thursday, may 11th, is the first time i felt confident enough that the terrific weather would hold all day and put on short pants here in galway! let the sunshine in!!!!

i would not carry much more than a light rain coat - if the weather ever gets too crummy on your visit - you will be staying inside anyway.

also, if it does get cold - every pub we have been to starts a fire right away. it is almost too hot in some places. so, even in the evening - you would never be chilled for a long period of time.

Kathy,

Glad to hear the sun was shining on you today. Long may it continue! I wish I were there to enjoy it along with you. Now if we could just order the rain to fall softly at night while we sleep and the sun to shine all day...now that would be a dream come true.
