Wondering how long it usually (I know you can't give me exact times)takes to get through customs when arriving in Dublin. How about baggage claim and car rental pickup? I guess what I really want to know is what is a reasonable amount of time to expect to be at the airport upon arrival.
Thanks!
Annette
PS- I apologize if this info is elsewhere, I did poke around and found a similar question about arriving in Shannon, but nothing for Dublin.
Time clearly customs can vary greatly, but I've always found Dublin to be pretty quick. Shannon is very fast. My plan is that it will usually be about 2 hours from when I land until I drive out on the wrong side of the road with my wife screaming. Can't wait!!
LOL about your wife screaming! I imagine I'll be doing the same thing to my husband.
I was figuring about two hours, but wasn't sure if that was optimistic or not. I know it can depend on lots of things and that two hours isn't a set in stone time, but it is nice to have a ballpark idea.
Bill is right on. When I travel through with only carry-on and don't have to wait for luggage I'm outta there in half an hour. However, once you have to wait for luggage others get into the car rental line ahead of you. It might be a wait then especially in season.
We'll be arriving in October, so hopefully the car rental lines won't be too long. I'm hoping to save time by sending husband to get bags while I rent the car (or vice versa). If you pay for the extra driver, do both need to be present when renting? If so, then maybe this idea won't work.
annette, most every car rental I've ever used will want to see the drivers licenses of both drivers. so yes, if you both will be driving the car, you both will need to be at the counter.
Ah, but does both licenses mean both people, or can one person carry both licenses? :)
The two times I've gone to Dublin (August and April, both with checked luggage and car) I was available to go out relatively quickly (except for the lost luggage report!!). Of course, the second time I had to wait for my parents' plane to land. :)
I think the first time, which was August, I was out and through in an hour. The second time in 1.5 hours. Your results may vary :D
