Dublin

We will be in Dublin for 5 days beginning Sept 8, 2006.  One of those days is touring Dublin.  However, we would like to hire a car and driver and see inland Ireland.  later we will be on a tour for 15 days heading south to County Cork, then around the southern parts, and then north along the west coast, ending in Galway, i think.   Any suggestions for trips around Dublin?

Nobesad,

Are you speaking of day trips and returning to Dublin at the end of each day? If so you wouldn't want to go too far from Dublin. Just south is the Wicklow Mountains, which is full of gardens, mountains, great scenery and Glendalough. A bit north of Dublin is Newgrange and Hill of Tara, Ireland's ancient monuments. West is Kildare with the Irish National Stud and gardens. A bit farther is Kilkenny, a lovely city with a castle. That should give you some ideas.

I've done both the north/Hill of Tara/Newgrange trip from Dublin and the south/Wicklow/Powerscourt/Glendalough trip, and both are great!  The first is much more archealogical/ancient site oriented, while the second is natural wonder/serenity.
