RE: Boyne Valley

Old Boley self-catering is fantastic. Probably too far though.

Im not sure about staying in Dundalk. Its close to the coast, which meets my wifes #1 criteria, but Im having a hard time getting a sense of it as a town. Any suggestions for a Northeast coastal location to spend a three day weekend? This will follow four nights in Navan. Thanks.

Carlingford looks amazing. Have you stayed at McKevitts Village Hotel?

We stayed at Michele's rec during our 2012 'Retirement Tour' trip.  Some of the 'cousins' drove up from Cork for an overnight for my birthday.  Our guesthouse had no vacancies, so the cousins stayed next door, at Shalom (which MAY be owned / operated by relatives of our hosts) and they found the accommodations very much to their liking.

There are beautiful views of the Lough, but it IS about a 15 - 20 minute walk into town center -- If that's a 'Deal Killer'.  confuse  confuse

Were still young enough to walk, in fact 15-20 minutes is kind of a sweet spot. Ive stayed places on previous trips that were over several miles out and usually not a safe walk. Westport Quay to Westport being the exception because of sidewalks. Ill take a look. Also looking at Mc Kevitts Village Hotel as a possibility.

It boggles me that accommodation in May is booked so far out, although we chose a weekend to stay in Carlingford and it seems to be a popular wedding venue. Shalom B&B is one of those places.

There could be a big wedding during the weekend you want. Maybe email a hotel or B&B to ask. If there is a big event perhaps Carlingford is not in the running this time.

I have a reservation at McKevitts Village Hotel in Carlingford. It looks decent although I dont have any personal recommendations from anyone on the place.

For what it's worth -- The reason the Cousins needed to stay elsewhere was due to a wedding!

Have us booked 5/4-5/8 in Navan at the Newgrange Hotel, and 5/8-5/11 at McKevitts Hotel in Carlingford. But, am I missing out by not booking in Rostrevor? Help!

Rostrevor was attractive -- although, I have MIXED feelings about the monument commemorating the man who burned the White House biggrin  biggrin -- yet, I STILL think Carlingford was WELL worth our two night stay.

Reviews for the Newgrange Hotel in Navan seem to be getting more negative the past several months, especially about the condition of rooms and the hotel in general. I cancelled my reservation and went with Micheles recommendation of the Trim Castle Hotel, although I could only book for three nights so I ended up with an extra Thursday night. I decided to go to Rostrevor for a night to take in a trad session.
