I've been reading Michele's book and the internet and am very torn about where to stay while visting the Dingle peninsula. I'm actually thinking of adding a second night to the area because it looks so great. But where to take that night from? That is a whole other topic.
Anyway, I'm looking at The Shores in Castlegregory because it looks great and the dinners sound very romantic. Since this trip corresponds with our anniversary it would be a nice touch. But, Coill An Rois looks amazing also and the fact that Jimmy makes his own chocolates and wonderful pastries is a real bonus. The problem is that neither of these are in Dingle town. I've read that Castlegregory is a little quiet. We're very interested in traditional music and it looks like Dingle town itself is going to be best for this....am I right? And if this is the case, I guess I can't complain because Heatons and Castlewood both look great as well.
I guess what I'm looking for is some advice about which of these is in the best location where we would be able to visit (preferably walk) to a pub or two to see some music.
From the info you have given I think you will be better off staying within walking distance of Dingle town. If you are up for a splurge for your anniversary then Emlagh House is superb but it is expensive. Otherwise try Heaton's. I haven't been to Castlewood yet but it is owned by the Heatons and I expect it is first-class. If you prefer a smaller B&B try Tower View or Emalgh Lodge.
We have a reservation at Castlewood. It is our first trip and so we haven't stayed there before. I promised Michele and the forum readers to report on it in July when I get back. We opted for the family room there, I felt it was expensive but we consider it a splurge and after all it will be MY birthday.
