Itinerary help

Hello,

I am thrilled that I just discovered this forum!

My family and I (husband, 2 boys, 11 & 13) will be arriving in Shannon early am on Friday, June 23.  We're flying out of Dublin on Monday morning, June 26, for London.

We were planning to stay in the Dingle area for a couple of days then head over to Dublin for 1 day and night.

We've received advice on doing the Ring of Kerry versus Dingle and I'm not sure if that is realistic for a couple of days.  We have no idea what to expect of late June tourist crowds.  My husband went to the Dingle area as a young teen and wants our boys to have a mix of ruins, landscapes and the wonderful hospitality he remembers.  Is it better to stay 2 nights in one place, or hop from one B&B to the next?

Also, where should we stay in/near Dublin if we have an 8am flight?

Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks so much.

RASamborn,

Welcome to the forum. You certainly don't have much time in Ireland. Your idea of going directly to Dingle and spending two days is fine. I don't suggest B&B hopping. Find a place to stay and spend two nights there. Don't even attempt the Ring of Kerry. Dingle will be your sole goal on this quick trip. Check my "Lodgings" page for accommodation suggestions.

You will really not have time to see Dublin. The drive from Dingle to Dublin is about 7 - 8 hours. that will take the whole day on Sunday. Since you have such an early flight (you need to be at the airport by 6 am or earlier) you should stay near the airport. There are a few hotels nearby. Or look at B&Bs in Swords or Malahide.

I hope you get to return to Ireland some day for a longer trip.

Michele

P.S. Make your reservations ASAP!
