Has anyone ever been to these gardens during the alloted time? Am going to Ireland during the time of the garden tour,10 June -25 June, and wonder how they are. Thanks, Claire
Wow! That looks like an amazing trip! Out of that list I've only been to Ilnacullen and it was beautiful even in mid-April (it probably will be even better by late June). It is very well maintained and has incredibly diverse plantings.
Generally the garden tours are held during the season. Since I usually travel in the shoulder season they are not going on when I am in Ireland. I had a look at the website and I think that some of the gardens are not open to the public except during such an event. From the info on the site it seems that some of the gardens are works in progress. It depends on what you want to see as to whether they will be worthwhile for you. It will also be determined by the amount of time you have in Ireland.
Hi, my wife and I were in Clonakiltyabout 2 weeks ago and spent a pleasant couple of hours at Lisselan Gardens. They were quite nice, a formal garden as well as rhododendrons etc along a little river and adjacent to a golf course. There is a large, grand private home in the gardens with a courtyard that contains some vintage cars. Ireland is loaded with many fine gardens to visit.
