I've discovered a really stupid problem with my passport. A couple months ago I checked to make sure that my current passport hadn't expired. I have another few years, so that's ok. Then today, I am getting everything in order to travel to Ireland for a week with my Mom and I've realized that my passport is in my maiden name. I have a certified birth Cert., a certified marriage license, social security card in my married name, etc.
I know this is a major blunder, but do you think I will have a major problem getting through customs?
We're leaving on Thurs. and because my passport is more than a year old, I cannot even expedite the process.
Don't panic and don't cancel your trip. I think that if you take your birth certificate, marriage license and passport you can travel and get through customs. But just to be safe, call your airline. They will be able to tell you the exact details.
Make extra copies of each and keep in separate from originals in case of an emergency.
I was able to make lots of phone calls yesterday while in panic mode.
From several different federal agencies, I was told that a passport is a stand-alone form of photo id. Customs agents really shouldn't ask for anything else. If I'm asked for another photo id and the name isn't the same as what is on the passport, the marriage license and birth certificate should be enough.
Don't worry, I will have copies of everything with me and at home and the passport will be amended immediately upon my return.
I'm glad to hear that everything is working out well. We would enjoy hearing about your trip when you return. Meanwhile, if you need any tips before you depart feel free to post here. Bon Voyage!
