We're thinking on staying in Marless House for a night before our Ashford Castle adventure. Is driving there very scary? My friend and I are just kind of nervous about all the roundabouts and stuff and the traffic if there's lots! Maybe I can meet up with Kathy from Galway while we're there to explore the city! Does anyone know how much taxi fare is into the city from Salthill?
There is a lot of traffic in Galway. It is not that scary. Just take it slow and easy and don't let anyone rush you into making a decision. The roundabouts are actually great. If you miss the road you want just go around again till you find it.
I wouldn't think that cab fare would be any more than 5 euro from Salthill into town.
Two years ago I missedthe exit off a roundaboutin Galway and my wife told me to go around again and after the second go around pulled off a side street soon to find a Garda behind me lights and siren on. He approached my and said "Are ye a tourist?" After telling me the correct exit to take he also cautioned that going around a roundabout more than once is illegal.
A fun story to retell and occasionally embellish!

Marles House is on Treadneadle road to get to Ashford is easy. Head up the road and take 3rd exit on 1st roundabout. 2nd exit 2nd roundabout and you are on the N6. Keeping left there is a little slip road which (only just) avoids entering the Bodkin roundabout onto the Headford Road N84 2nd exit at the Marriot hotel roundabout. Straight road to Headford and then as the road goes right at a box junction go straight on, about 8 miles on it gets confusing with the R334 an 346 sharing a hundred yards or so but the 346 leans left to Ashford. You are on the wrong side of Salthill to walk down the prom into Galway (too far for me anyway) but you can get the bus into town. I suspect a taxi might be closer to E10 but your hosts will tell you exactly.
At least I now know who 2 of the accidents looking for somewhere to happen might have been. sure there must be more than one an hour but very few actually make contact.

Someone I know who stayed at Marless House said the great thing is that there is a bus stop one block from there that you can get transportion into city center at a great rate. I wouldn't mess with a taxi if it was10 euros, and consider taking a bus if the times are right.
One thing for sure -- do not try and park in Galway, or you will use half of your time looking for a parking spot.

I don't plan on driving into Galway. We will probably walk most of the time and take the bus as necessary. I was aware of the proximity to a bus stop- one of the factors in my choosing Marless House.
