Plugging in the cell phone charger without setting the room on fire?!

Michele and travellers...let's see..I have my three-prong plugs for Republic of Ireland. I think I have (and need?) 2-prong plugs for Northern Ireland? No? Yes?

I don't have a converter yet. Not bringing a hair dryer as luckily most of my b&bs have answered my e-mail stating they do have hair dryers, towels, and small face cloths.

But we will need to charge up our 2 cell phones...getting SIM cards for them in Ireland. Do you know if cell phone chargers bought in the USA usually need a converter for Ireland?

What about Ipods, which my daughters want to bring to play music? Do they need a converter?

In Italy I recall not using a converter, just the little 2-prong plug thingies...we didn't set anything on fire...

Thanks for putting up with zillions of questions everybody. Leaving in a coupla days so you will be rid of me for 2 weeks (unless I get near a computer in Ireland and start my trip report early! )

Melissa,

The ipod has a converter built into the standard ipod charger.  I checked with apple because I was concerned about the same thing.  So, no worry of a meltdown.  You can also buy a car adaptor if you'd rather charge on the go and not worry about the wall stuff.

The prong thingies are the same for UK and Ireland ... three thingies.

If your mobile phone charger has a built in converter, it will be very obvious. It's a block, usually somewhere in the middle of the cord and will list a voltage range from aprox 110-240. If it has that, you don't need a converter. If it doesn't, you need one. Ours needed one.

Thanks, everybody. I didn't buy my converter yet. Running out of time. The countdown begins...She's going...going...almost gone.
