Melissa: Thanks a Bunch

Melissa,

Thanks so much for contributing to the forum's community piggy bank. It is very kind of you to do that. I appreciate it very much and I'm sure everyone else does too. Here is your IrelandYes award for the contribution and for just being a generally nice person:

Michele, you are MOST welcome, and all of your tons of help on planning my trip is deeply appreciated. Your advice was right on. In fact although I have a whole shelf of Ireland guidebooks, I only chose to bring a few. I have to say yours was so well-used the pages are starting to rip out. At one point my hubby told me to toss Rick Steves book out the window...his advice on where to eat in Ireland is terrible. We found the best places to eat by either following your advice, or else by just looking around...where are the locals eating, what does the food on their plates look like, are there any awards posted on the front of the restaurant or pub, etc. Sometimes we were hungry in towns not in your book.

In defense of Rick Steves I must add that his guidebook for Italy is right-on for Italy, but MICHELE is the Queen of Irish guidebook writers. If you don't have Michele's Best Little Guide to Ireland, get one now!

Melissa,

You have absolutely made my day with your comments.  I am very gratified to know that my book was of that much help. I do like good food and clean B&Bs. As my husband always says "You're fussy!". To which I reply, "I get paid to be fussy." What I don't tell him is I would be fussy anyway. It is just my nature.

Michele, we are sure glad you're fussy! You know even my husband began to ask me, "What does Michele say?" when we had to make decisions in our travels!

Now if only I could write a book, then hubby wouldn't complain so much about the price of food in Europe...I could just say "I get paid to eat gourmet!"

Michele, like Melissa, I have a shelf of travel guides for Ireland. I'm getting ready to re-read yours. I wish I'd bought it before my first trip to Ireland! Your guide has all the little personal details that are missing from just about all of the other guides I've read.

Thanks so much for being "fussy" and for not only paying attention to the little details, but *sharing* them as well!

Willie,

Thanks for your comments. I'm glad you like the "personal details". I frequently get comments from readers that they enjoy the tone of my book and tidbits about the B&B owners. Many of the big guidebooks are written by an editorial committee so I suppose they must be impersonal in order to maintain consistency. I love sharing all the details not only in my book but here too.
