car rental return

Michele, I believe we are getting a car from thrifty at Shannon airport through Royal Irish Tours.  We only have the tour for 1 week, but extended the car rental for a week longer.  My question is this:  We won't be needing it for our last 2 1/2 days in Dublin.  We will probably be coming from Powerscourt way and I wondered should we drop it off at the airport or would their south of the city address be easier.  If the airport, which road would you recommend to get there.  I'm starting to get really nervous, less than a month to go!  I'll probably make some pretty panicky posts from here on in with some petty questions, I apologize in advance and once again, I just don't know what I would have done without your wonderful forum, thanks again!

Deborah,

What hotel are you staying at in Dublin? Is the car drop off in the south portion of Dublin City or elsewhere?

Michele, we will be staying at Harcourt Hotel.  From what I can tell from Thrifty's website, the address is downtown, Lombard St. East, Dublin 2, which would probably mean driving through complete lunacy which we're not prepared to do!!  So, I'm thinking maybe the airport and taxi it Harcourt.  What do you think?

Deborah,

If you feel uncomfortable driving in Dublin City then drop the car at the airport. The M50 toll road goes around Dublin and to the airport. Try to avoid rush hour because everything including the highway can come to a standstill then.

How much coinage should we be carrying for the toll road?  Would it be the #4 exit or#5 exit we should be looking for to get into airport?

Deborah,

Last year the toll was a bit less than 2 euro on the M50. There are booths where change is made if needed. I believe it is exit 5. However, the airport is well signposted and you should have no problems finding it. Just follow the signs with little airplanes on them.
