Questions

My sister and I are still trying to hash out our itinerary for our Sept. 26 trip.  Please critique our new plan.

Day 2 - leave Dublin and head to Trim to see Trim Castle, then head to Birr area for Leap Castle and/or Kinnitty Castle.  Arrive in Cashel.  Will we have time to tour the Rock of Cashel?  Do we need reservations for the Brian Boru show?  Originally we were going to spend two days in Cashel touring various places (Caher, Swiss Cottage, Waterford Crystal).

Day 3 - Tour ROC if did not on the previous day.  Head to Waterford for the crystal factory tour.  Our next destination is Kenmare, stopping at Blarney Castle and Woolen Mills along the way.  Should we drive straight to Blarney or stop along the way and spend the night somewhere?  Would like to drive along the Southern coast as much as possible.

We are satisfied with the rest of our itinerary:  3 days Kenmare, 2 days Dingle, 3 days Clare/Galway area.  It is just the first couple of days that are giving us headaches.

Anna,

On day 2 you have quite a lot of driving. I understand that Leap Castle is opened at the whim of the owner. It would be good to call in advance to be sure you can visit it. Kinnity Castle is a hotel (just so you know). Personally, I would just drive directly to Cashel and tour the ROC, Cahir Castle and Swiss Cottage. That will take the whole day. However, if you have your heart set on seeing the other things it is doable but get an early start.

The Bru Boru Show ends in mid-September so you should check with them to find out if it is still on when you will be there. If it is open, you need reservations. Generally, your B&B hosts will make them for you if asked.

On day 3 you might consider overnighting in Blarney or Kinsale.
