salons for visitors?

Hello,

Two years ago, while traveling in Paris, I found in my guide book some information about a casual discussion salonin English for people who lived in the area and visitors.  I attended two of these salons and had a wonderful time meeting people, learning about what was happening professionally in the area and finding companions for musical events in the evening.

Do such salons/networking meeting/discussion groups occur in Ireland?  And if yes, how would I find them?

My itinerary brings me to Ireland from Oct 14 - 23.   Right now I'm looking at Tipperary, Limerick, Cork and the Aillwee Cave  in Ballyvaughan County Clare Ireland

Does anyone have any knowledge or suggestions?  I'd greatly appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you!

and thank you, Michelle, for providing this forum!

Best regards.

Diana

Diana,

Right off the top of my head I would suggest that these "salons" are, in Ireland, called pubs. There are clubs for all sorts of different pursuits. Try a google search first or tell us what sort of group you are interested in finding.

Dear Michele,

Pubs!  Of course.  I forgot.  Nothing that I saw provided such open socializing in Paris that can happen in an English pub.  This I know about.  But I completely forgot about the entire pub culture in Ireland!  Good grief.  Thank you.
