I've seen a lot of websites that offer air/car/B&B vouchers. These seem like a good idea, and less stress with planning, but does anyone know if they are usually a good deal? Would I be better off booking each thing separately? I'm also wondering how easy it is to find places that accept the vouchers. I'm going late May. Would it be better (or cheaper) to pay for each BB in cash when I get there?
I asked the same exact question when I first joined the forum. Michele and everyone else said to book everything on my own. It will end up being cheaper with a little more effort. Also, not all b&b'a and attractions accept vouchers, especially during the high season. Since you are going in May, I don't know if you would really have a problem with that. But, Michele broke it down like this...you pick your dates and get your airfare, come up with your itinerary, and then book a car and some b&b's. It really is pretty easy (and fun!) with most things being available online. We booked everything online and called the B&B's a few weeks before leaving to confirm.
As Shawn has suggested many times putting the pieces together yourself can save you money. You need to count the cost of a package versus doing it yourself. If you get a really good deal on a fly/drive/voucher package they can sometimes be more economical. However, given the time you are traveling I suspect that doing it yourself will be more economical. Also, using vouchers has a downside in that not all places take them and you may have more difficulty using them on weekends and holidays. If you plan on staying in Dublin you should upgrade to hotel vouchers because there are virtually no B&Bs in Dublin that take them.
