Cottage for 4 Killarney Area?

Thanks to some help from Michelle and Cowboy, I'm beginning to narrow down a possible itinerary for a trip next February or March. Does anyone have a suggestion for a self-catering cottage or other accomodation that might make a good "home base" in the Killarney area? There would be four of us -- my husband and I, our 26 year old son and 23 year old daughter. Two rooms would work, three would be appreciated.

We'd like to stay in or near a pleasant village (walking distance to a shop and a pub) for about five nights. It would be especially enjoyable if there would be a way to meet and talk with people. We're interested in exploring natural areas, historical sites, fishing, trad music, and off the beaten path kind of experiences. I appreciate your help!

Wren,

I don't have a personal recommendation for Killarney. Perhaps someone else will let you know. I suggest looking at the various self-catering websites and choosing a 4-star accommodation. There are many in Killarney that would be in walking distance of town.

Dia Duit Wren,

I have stayed in Killeen Cottage at Killarney Cottages, which is situated between Killarney and Killarney National Park on a working Farm. During the off season, they offer short break stays, which is what you would be looking for during your holiday.

Though not in Killarney proper, it is only a short drive away from city center. The hosts are the most delightful of people. They will definitely see to it that you feel at home.

Only one warning and that is that they don't provided towels. Luckily, I always pack one.
