Galway Lodgings

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for suggestions of a place to stay in Galway within walking distance of the downtown area. We'll have two twenty somethings with us that will want to explore the pub/music scene and while my husband and I enjoy good trad music, we'll probably be heading back to our rooms before they will. None of us want to worry about parking or having to drive in and out of the area for the evening.

My husband and I stayed at Jury's the last time we were in Galway, and while you couldn't beat it for convenience, the room, bed, and general shabbiness were not something we'd want to repeat. We'd probably stay three nights, with some day trips to Connemara. We'd be interested in a B&B or possibly an apartment type situation and would love some input from folks who have had successful, pleasant stays in the area.

Thanks! Wren

Wren,

My best suggestion for Galway City is Park House Hotel. I suggest you inquire about either a weekend break or mid-week break. These are special offers for those staying for 2 or more nights and are generally lower rates with perhaps a dinner included.

My other suggestion is in Salthill overlooking Galway Bay and is around a 15-20 minute walk into town on sidewalks. It is Lawndale run by Margaret Walsh. She does not have a website or email. You would have to phone her. Let me know if you want her number.

Hello Again Wren,

I would recommend a couple of places. The Forster Court Hotel is just off Eyre street. Another on Eyre is the Great Southern Galway. Those would be the two best that I coudl possibly recommend.

Wren,

Cowboy's recommendation of the Great Southern is excellent, however they have very limited parking. I believe the manager told me they have less than 10 spaces. The Park House Hotel has private parking for guests. It might make a difference.

The Great Southern is very grand and has recently had a complete factlift. Even the standard rooms have marble bathrooms. Park House is just a skip down the street from Great Southern and may cost less. I like it for its very Irish atmosphere and great customer service. The staff is lovely.
