My mother-in-law's family is from Irishtown in Co. Mayo. Have any of you been there or have anything to share about it? She has family to visit there (which she will do in Sept), but I thought I could give her something to wet her appetite.
I am not sure if it is still available for reprint, but there was an article on Irishtown published in the Ballidine Post that talked in depth about the Irishtown School and about the lake, as well. I brought it home a copy for my son's project but now cannot find it to scan it for you. Irishtown is such a small place, it is interesting to find someone headed for there specifically. I wish her well on her journey. Remember driving through there on one of my faery led road adventures. I shall endeavour to remember to go south (sorta) out of Dunmore next time but I can't promise that I will! I did make it to Tuam eventually.
Definitely off the beaten path! I've been through there but don't remember much of it. Bit had shared a link with you and you may want to look at these:
Thanks for the links. I printed out a couple of the magazine articles for my mother in law. I have not found that much online about the place. Seems to be very, very small. However, the real intention of going there is to meet up with lost relatives not sight see....so I'm sure it'll be worth the trip. I just thought it would be nice to give her a little background before going.
