Greetings - I am delighted to find this site and hope to peruse it in depth soon. My first question is to ask how to travel from Larne to Londonderry in a short time, and economically. My husband and I will be coming off of a two week holiday in Scotland, and are considering travel from Scotland to Northern Ireland by ferry, arriving in Larne. We will be visiting some friends in Londonderry for four days, and we don't want to bother them with having to pick us up at Larne. Is there a train or bus we might take?
At the end of our visit with these folks we will return to the states departing from Shannon. I understand that there is a bus to Shannon from Londonderry, but if we were to spend a night or two in Dublin, what transport would you recommend from the north? And where in Dublin would you suggest staying, given that we have only a short time to see some of the city? Do you have a list of highlights for Dublin?
Would appreciate any and all suggestions. Next trip to the UK will focus on Ireland, but this is a taste of it anyway. Many thanks, Susan O
Welcome to my forum! Most people who are not taking a car across on the ferry will find that flying is actually cheaper than the ferry. Look into both before deciding. Perhaps you can fly into Londonderry and save yourself the train and bus journey.
Click on IrelandYes Index. A box will drop down with links. Click on Transport. On that page if you scroll down you will have links to Northern Ireland Railways and Ulster Bus. It is easy to plan your own journey on both sites. Just input your dates, times and cities.
It is probably easier to get to Dublin than to Shannon. A train goes from Belfast to Dublin about every hour. I do not know of an express bus that goes from Derry to Shannon. If you have found that, please share it with us.
If you stay in Dublin and want to see the highlights, you will be best off staying in the city center in the Dublin 2 area. You can visit this website for highlights: www.visitdublin.com
Keep working on your trip and do take some time to look around my website. There is a lot that will help with your trip.
