Distance To Airport

Michele:

Thinking of a stay in Kilrush before flying out of Shannon.  Have you ever stayed at at B&B there, and do you like the town?  Also, how long does it take to drive from Kilrush to Shannon Airport, and is there a good way to cut across at some point where you do not have to go through Ennis?

Thanks!

Sidz,

If you tell me your departure time from Shannon I will give you my best advice on whether to stay in Kilrush or not. Yes, I have stayed there at Hillcrest View. The town is fine and rather small. There is now a bypass around Ennis but when in Co. Clare it is almost impossible to avoid going through the Ennis area.

Our flight leaves Shannon at 12:15 a.m. so we would need to be at the airport I suppose at no later than 10.  Guess it might be wiser to just find a place to stay in Ennis, do you think?

Plus I guess Ennis might have some interest for us to explore our last night before returning to the states.

Sidz,

Or you could stay in Bunratty have no worries about getting up early and traffic. Don't get me wrong, I love Ennis but I also like Bunratty and usually stay the night before I fly out.

Sidz,

I like Joan's suggestion of Bunratty. That is where I stay the night before departure also. It is only a 10-15 minute drive to the airport with no traffic. Ennis is farther away and you must deal with traffic there. I would arrive at the airport around 9:30. You will have the car to return and perhaps VAT refunds to deal with. It is always better to err on the safe side when catching a flight.

When staying in Bunratty you will just have time for breakfast and last-minute packing before you must hop in the car and get on the road.

What about a hotel right next to the airport like Great Southern hotel? I've heard it's nice.

MrsD1,

The Great Southern Hotel is a decent 3-star place to stay. Many people are on a budget and prefer a B&B instead. That is why I generally recommend Bunratty, which is a 10-15 minute drive from Shannon Airport.
