Help for first 2 days in Ireland

Hello all. This is my first post here. My husband and I are planning our first trip to Ireland in June. We have a walking tour planned that will be based in Westport. We meet up with our tour at the Shannon airport. We have planned our flight to arrive in Ireland two days before the walking tour just to make sure all is well. Our problem is we won't have a car for those two days and are trying to decide what to do. We don't want to waste our vacation time and would like to possibly take a bus tour or something while we are waiting for our walking tour to begin.

Any ideas for us? We like getting out and meeting people. We haven't made our reservations for the first two nights because we wanted to keep our options open. Thanks for any info or ideas.

MrsD1,

Welcome to my forum! You might want to consider staying in Limerick, which is not too far from Shannon Airport. From there you can get day tours. The following companies have various tours:

http://www.4tours.biz/

That should keep you busy for two days.

Thanks so much for the info. I hadn't considered Limerick because I'd heard it was pretty run down and not much to see. I'll check it out though.

MrsD1,

That may have been Limerick in the book Angela's Ashes but this is the 21st century and is another story. Limerick is booming with plenty of new hotels, restaurants, good shopping and some things that can keep you busy for a day or two. You don't want to go too far afield from the Shannon area. Other towns that might suit you are Ennis and Adare. However, the day tours do not go from them and you would have to get public transportation to Limerick for the tours. Logistically speaking two days in Limerick makes sense.
