Weather in Ireland

Michele

I was just wondering what sort of weather will we expect in Ireland in August? Should we wear layers, do we need a spray jacket (light rain coat) or will it be sunny?

Thanks.

Rosie.

Oh Rosie,

That is the $6,000,000 question! If I knew that I could sell the info for a mint and everyone could go to Ireland when the sun is shining. Mind you, it would most likely be very, very crowded.

Last year Ireland had a heat wave and you could have gone in shorts and tank tops. This year...who knows? It could be hot, it could be cool. It could be rainy, it could be sunny. You might need shorts, you might need layers. In other words, you must be prepared for anything. The reason layers makes sense is you add a jacket over a shirt if it cools off. I remember that Melissa5 (see her excellent trip report on that section of the forum) bought windbreakers for herself and her daughters. She swears that because they were prepared for rain and cool weather, the opposite happened.

Go to my weather page. If you scroll down I have a temperature chart of averages for the year. You can also click on any of the weather boxes around the map of Ireland to view the past weather and lots of other weather info. Those tools may help you be a weather prognosticator for Ireland this August. But generally, it is sunny, showery, warm and cool.

Michele
