Thanks to everyone's great advice. I finally have our trip route and lodging taken care of.
Fly into Shannon. 1st Night in Kilrush @ Hillcrest View 2nd Night Dingle @ Captains House 3rd and 4th night Kenmare @ Sea Shore Guest House 5th night Kilkenny @ The Meadows 6th and 7th Dublin @ Brooks
But now I'm second guessing my Dublin decision. The only reason we are going to Dublin is for a concert at Marlay Park. We had decided if we were going to Dublin we should stay in the mix of things down by Temple Bar area and markets, some shopping. But it's so expensive there :) I think our room is $268/nt US and we won't get there til very late on the 6th after the concert. Anyways I think you see where I'm going. Would it be better staying South of Marlay Park and visiting that area? Then my only concern is catching our flight at10:45am. But I guess we could always drive up and stay close to the airport that last night. What are ya'lls thoughts? Is Dublin worth paying the money and going into for 1 day?
You could spend a WEEK in Dublin and not see everything, but it depends more upon YOUR interests as to which option is better. There should be less expensive options in Central Dublin than $268 per night, but you will pay more for the location factor. You'll want to be at the airport NO LATER than 8:30 (and I would recommend earlier, still). Factor in your transport costs, too, so you are comparing TOTAL cost per night. If you decide to do a 1 and 1, Swords or Malahide are near-airport options. You could bus or train into Dublin to explore / shop / tour.

You don't mention dates, but I'm finding rates at the Jurys Inn Customs House (very near Connoly Station (train) AND the Main bus station at 108 Euro per night, mid-week, in late June.
The Jurys Inn Christchurch (across the road from Christchurch Cathederal and close to, but not in Templebar, is showing rates of 105 Euro per room.
There are cheaper alternative in Dublin, but it may take some searching.

Did you check with Abberley House? I have stayed there as it is very reasonable. I have also stayed at Kelly's Hotel but I think that they mightn't be open for business any longer, as their website has been down for a while. A shame really, as it was on the edge of Temple Bar and quite comfortable.
Actually, I make no recommendation for OR against. Your concern seemed to be cost related:

My comment was that it would be easier to get to the airport from city center and that you could get by with lodging a lot less than $268. There IS plenty to do IN Dublin. I don't know much about the Marlay Park area, so I can't say what there would be to do to occupy your time.
I also suggested Malahide or Swords as further options. What interests YOU should be the final determining factor.

OK. I'm thinking it would be wise to stay in Rathfarnham. We'll be coming in from Kilkenny, probably already rushed and tired. It would be nice to be able to check in and relax a little instead of trying to figure out the bus system and getting down to Marlay Park. We'd already be down there. Then after the concert we don't have to worrry about catching a bus all the way back into the city. Just sounds less stressful to stay in the Marlay Park area that night. Now does anybody know anything about the area and able to recommend lodging? I can't find a whole lot on the forums.
Belville House, whilst not directly in Rathfarnham, is close enough (3 miles) to make it worth taking a look at for lodging. Grangewood B&B is across from Marlay Park but they are probably already booked solid. Cormican B&B would be yet another close at hand.
I don't have any personal recommendations in Rathfarnham. Go to my "Links" page and under accommodations you can click through to sites for B&Bs and hotels. You could find things booked for the concert.
