Michele, I am going to be in Ireland from April 28, 2007 thru May12 , 2007 and just wanted to get your opion on my itinereary. I plan on staying the nights in theses towns and doing day trips out. I have some reservations cause my vacation falls on a bank holiday and some places I do not have any. I am staying at the Emlagh House in Dingle. In Kenmare no reservations, but looking at the Water's Edge or Virginia's. Do you have any other suggestions. In Kilkenny I will be staying at the Alcantra. Dublin the Anchor Guesthouse. In Doolin no reservations and I was wondering do you have any suggestions here to. This I think is my final revision unless you see something that is really wrong. I leave on the 27th of April and land in Shannon on the 28th. I will have a car so getting around will be no problem. Thanks again for all your help and to everybody who added there two centsI in in your debt. With out all of your help this trip would never have taken place. Thank You so much
Day 1 Land in Shannon and drive to Dingle take the ferry on the way I know it is the back way but i had someone tell me it is less crowed, a more pretty drive, and you can take a rest on the ferry. Day 2 Dingle Is it better to drive Dingle on my own or take a tour? If i take a tour any suggestions on which tour company. Day 3 Kenmare Ring of Kerry Day 4 Kenmare - Beara peninsula Day 5 Kenmare No idea what to do this day Day 6 Kilkenny Cahir Castel along the way anything else I should see on the way Day 7 Kilkenny Cashel area Day 8 Kilkenny Drive to Hook Head or Do a walking tour of Kilkenny not sure yet which one I should do. Day 9 Dublin Stop at Wicklow and Glendalough on the way Day 10 Dublin Tour Newgrange with Mary Gibbons Day 11 Dublin Tour Hop on and Off Day 12 Doolin Drive from Dublin to Doolin any thing i should see or any way i should go Day 13 Doolin Cliffs of Moher Should i take the cruise or go to visitor center Day 14 Bunratty Tour Loop Head when driving to Bunratty Day 15 Fly Home
On Day 5 why not take the Deros Gap of Dunloe tour? They bus you out to Kate Kearney's Cottage, put you in a jaunting cart to go up through the Gap, then you take a boat down through the Lakes and end up at Ross Castle where the bus picks you up and takes you back into town.
Day 1 Land in Shannon and drive to Dingle take the ferry on the way I know it is the back way but i had someone tell me it is less crowed, a more pretty drive, and you can take a rest on the ferry. * Fine
Day 2 Dingle Is it better to drive Dingle on my own or take a tour? If i take a tour any suggestions on which tour company. * Since you will already be in Dingle, unless you are interested in an archaeological tour, do it yourself.
Day 3 Kenmare Ring of Kerry * Fine.Go to my "Lodgings" page for B&Bs. Driftwood is very nice, the price is right and walking distance to town.
Day 4 Kenmare - Beara peninsula * Fine.
Day 5 Kenmare No idea what to do this day * Either go into Killarney to see the sights there or to Glengarriff (Ilnacullin Garden) and Bantry House & Gardens.
Day 6 Kilkenny Cahir Castel along the way anything else I should see on the way * The Swiss Cottage in Cahir! Since Cashel is so close you might want to fit it in today.
Day 7 Kilkenny Cashel area * If you did Cashel yesterday this day would be free for Kilkenny Castle, Kells Priory, Jerpoint Abbey, etc.
Day 8 Kilkenny Drive to Hook Head or Do a walking tour of Kilkenny not sure yet which one I should do. * Decide when you are there.
Day 9 Dublin Stop at Wicklow and Glendalough on the way * Nothing much in Wicklow town except the gaol. Do Glendalough and Powerscourt.
Day 10 Dublin Tour Newgrange with Mary Gibbons * Fine.
Day 11 Dublin Tour Hop on and Off * Fine.
Day 12 Doolin Drive from Dublin to Doolin any thing i should see or any way i should go. * Depends on your route. If you headed toward Galway and down you could see Clonmacnoise (south of Athlone).B&Bs: Cullinan's, O'Connor's, Hotel Doolin.
Day 13 Doolin Cliffs of Moher Should i take the cruise or go to visitor center * You could do both, weather permitting.
Day 14 Bunratty Tour Loop Head when driving to Bunratty * Fine.
Day 15 Fly Home
Now after all that help, we definitely expect a trip report!
Another possibility from Kenmare is the Skellig Michael tour. You'll need good weather and to not be afraid of heights. The climb is tiring but not deadly as my non hiking wife made it to the top, a bit out of breath but surprised at her lack of pain.
