I've been hunting airfares for my 2007 trip for months now and think I've found a good fare at last, although it's not my preferred carrier. The cheapest fare for travel in late May, early June is on Delta. I'd fly Continental from my home town Houston, change planes in JFK and continue to Ireland on Delta. Do you or does anybody out there have any comments about the Delta segment? Also, how is the drive from SNN to Blarney? I've been to Ireland twice and am comfortable with the driving, but do you think it would be too much to land, pick up the car and head to Blarney? I've previously landed at SNN and driven to Galway without issue. My original idea had been to fly in and out of Dublin, but this good fare comes up with flying into Shannon and flying home from Dublin. Would I probably get charged for dropping off my rental car in a different city?
I am delighted to hear you are going to Ireland again and found a good airfare. I fly Delta all the time from Atlanta (direct flight) and would recommend them. My only gripe is on some planes they don't have personal air vents, which when you get to a certain age you really need. Last time I brought a tiny batery-operated fan that hangs around my neck and blows air on my face. Fortunately I didn't need it. Other than that, they are great. I hope your flight is a good one.
I forgot a couple of your questions. Drive time from Shannon to Blarney is about 2 hours, depending on traffic. It is doable. Most car rental companies do not charge a drop off fee for renting in Shannon and dropping in Dublin.
