Now, to prove my reverent irreverence, and in keeping with the musical theme elsewhere -- here's multi-Meteor Award winner John Spillane's lyric from THE LAND YOU LOVE THE BEST (from the CD WELLS OF THE WORLD):
"When angels with wings come, to collect you To carry you over the stormy sea Softly, they'll whisper, as they carress you Gently, they'll press you --with sweet words, undress you. Will you fly to the land that fed you and found you, Or the land you love the best?
The land you love the best. The land you love the best. Will you lie in a garden of peace and order? Or the cold, wild fields, in the West?"

Help Us to Help You. The more you tell us about your plans (dates, interests, budget), the better we can tailor our advice to suit!
My itinerary for May/June is finished!! It's very long, so is it okay to send it to you by mail, for you to critique it? You have been a great help in my planning, especially the places to stay. I must warn you, though, it is 17 pages long!! Let me know if you are interested.
Seventeen pages!! It is an itinerary not the great Irish novel. (Just kidding.) What I would love for you to do is post the condensed version under your own topic so that we can all dig in and offer advice. You don't have to put your dates if you don't want.
We are most definitely interested in your plans and would love to see what your itinerary looks like. Just cut out the bits like my sister's lists:
Wake up Brush teeth Shower Fix hair Apply make up
Now I have to admit my sister has taken list-making to an extreme. She has lists for her lists.
Actually, it is a "travelogue" that I leave copies of for my sons, siblings and friends to follow. There are photos and info of the BandBs, and details of what we want to see everyday ( lots of ancient monastic sites). Hence the length! I shall try to pare it down for the website.
As you can guess, Ireland is my "Magnificent Obsession"!
Your itinerary sounds like my own Deluxe Itineraries that I do for my clients. The itinerary itself becomes a souvenir of your trip for yourself and your family. How nice that you have done that. I'm sure that it is fun to look through after the trip to see if you actually got to do everything on your list for each day. Then there is always next time!
Very well said. I think that a lot of people on the various forum find that Ireland becomes their "Magnificent Obsession"! And isn't it a wonderful one to have?
Thank you. I have your book order and it will be in the mail on Tuesday. Monday is tax day here in the USA and I am not going near a crowded post office!
Actually, I have made my "travelogue" of our past 6 trips, and it is so much fun to re read them and reminise. I hand write them, so sons Michael and Larry have something personal of their Irish mom. I have never been a cook or baker, so this is my "inheritance" to them!
Our second born, Michael, and his then 6 months pregnant wife, Brenda, went with us in 1999. We attended the O'Leary Clan Gathering in Inchigeelagh, as part of the two week trip. We were at Gougane Barra, and I had wandered through the cemetary, and when I came over to St. Finbarr's Well, Michael was "baptizing" our unborn grandson with the holy water! Would you believe they named him Conner, after Conor Pass? Of course they Americanized the name, seeing how Brenda is Norwegian!! But when he was a baby, I would rock him and sing "When Conner's (Irish) Eyes Are Smiling". Every once in a while, later, when I would rock him, he would ask me to sing him "his" song. He and his 5 yr.old brother, Colby, know all about Ireland and Leprauchans, believe me! Such delightful little ones. Conner (7yrs old) wants me to bring him a Leprauchaun's house!
I should have added that our First Born, Larry, was in Law School and couldn't get away in "99. He and I were planning a two week Ireland trip in 2005, and he up and got engaged!! So those plans flew out the window. Darn! The best laid plans of mice and men!
It sounds like you have a wonderful family. Keep at it and someday Larry will make it to Ireland. I love the story about the Conner. You must tell him that leprechaun houses are invisible.
