We (my girlfriend and me) are about to visit Ireland, we'll take off next week monday, and we'll stay one week.
We are going to walk part of the Dingle way, and would like to camp. We probably start in Dingle town, walking clockwise.
Couple of questions :
Is the weather OK for camping these days? Doesn't it get too cold at night?
Is camping gaz widely available?
Are there enough campsites? Online, I could only find three on the Dingle peninsula. If not, is it ok to put your tent down 'in the wild', on non-fenced land, out of sight of roads and habitation? Officially, it's not allowed I guess, but is it a very strict policy, or is it allowed in the end?
Welcome to the forum! The weather at night has been in the 30s and 40s F. That is pretty chilly for camping out. Ireland also has hostels. You may want to consider them too. I have links to camping and hostels on my "Links" page. Just click on "IrelandYes Index" and on that link.
The prevailing wisdom is that you should ask the farmer or property owner if you can camp if you are out in the wilds. That is providing you can find someone to ask. Also, carry out all your litter and dispose of it properly when camping on private property. The Irish tend to bend the rules. Just be considerate.
Despite the fact that I was born in Massachusetts I spent most of my life in Miami and Atlanta. You will have to cut this southern belle some slack. Besides, my idea of camping out is staying at a really bad B&B with grungy rooms, bad beds, and no heat or hot water.
