I decided to post this here, as it may be pertinent for many novices like me. I already have the Michelin map of Ireland and my route (Thank you!) is highlighted. I have copied all the sections so that we don't have to fool with a cumbersome large map. I have it all in a notebook. Anyway, I am wondering about the merits of the Ordinance Complete Road Atlas of Ireland. How different are these two maps, and is it worth it to have the Ordinance, or am I going to be OK with the one I have? No doubt in my mind....with either or both or a dozen, I will end up having to ask, and I am looking forward to that! Marie
Thanks for posting this question, since I was wondering just the same thing.I checked the OSI site, and there are so many ordinance maps, I was overwhelmed.hopefully Michele or other people on this board who used both maps will come to the rescue.
The Michelin map will be more than adequate. It covers both the main roads and secondary roads very well. And since you've taken Michele's advice and enlarged the sections you need, you're all set.
The Ordinance Survey Atlas is nice for it's fine detail, and I use it for finding really obscure places and marking the routes I've taken, but it's not really necessary for most visitors.
You have already turned your Michelin map into an Atlas that you can turn the pages of. No need to purchase anything more. As Corey says, unless you are looking for something obscure you will be perfectly happy with the Michelin map.
For those who prefer an Atlas to the Michelin map I suggest Ordnance Survey: The Complete Road Atlas of Ireland Scale 1:210 000.
The individual ordnance maps with even more scale and detail are for those like Bob and Helen who are scouting out stone circles, megalithic sites, holy wells, etc. and need to find every boreen and pathway. For most people the ones I recommend above will be perfect.
