Thanks to everyone for all the advice that I received for an upcoming Ireland trip.
I'm now looking at Kenmare accomodations. Has anyone stayed at the Sea Shore or Abbey Court? Another possibiltiy is The Lodge. Michele, I read one of your earlier posts (early February) indicating that you are staying at The Lodge on your next trip. How was your stay?
I've stayed at The Lodge for 7 nights in 2005 and it was very comfortable. Good beds( mattress and linens), bath, and lovely ladies who will do anything they can to make you happy.
Just wanted to recommend the B&B we stayed in while in Kenmare. It was the Hawthorne House and we loved it the the owner, Mary. We stayed in the back 'cottage/room'.
For lower cost B&Bs try Driftwood, Abbey Court and Willow Lodge. I will also recommend Whispering Pines with the note that the upstairs bathrooms are extremely tiny and have been slotted into closets. The one in the downstairs room is larger. The hosts are wonderful.
We just spent two nights at Driftwood. They are great and their price was very good.
When you are there if you go shopping and/or dining in town beware: one of the Quills stores charged our credit card in US dollars without asking our preference. My husband hadn't noticed when he signed the slip and when I found out it was too late. Their conversion fee had a 3.5% markup - considerably higher than our credit card company charges. We had the same thing happen at the restaurant in the Coachman's Hotel.
If you want a recommendation for good food there be sure to try Davitt's. Their prices are quite reasonable for what you get. We ate there two nights. The first night I found three different starters that appealed to me, so I ordered all three - one for Keith and me to share and the other two for my main course. The portions were so large I couldn't begin to finish them!
Finally booked The Lodge in Kenmare (2 nights). I was "torn "between the Sea Shore, Driftwood and The Lodge. Hopefully I made the right decision. Also have all the other properties booked - Joy's Rockside, Heaton's in Dingle (2 nights) and Bunrattly Lodge (1).
We were glad to offer B&B suggestions. Don't worry, you can't go wrong with The Lodge and it is a quick walk into town. All your choices are excellent.
