We're just back from our two-week vacation to this warm, engaging, and thoroughly beguiling island. Wonderful weather -- very little rain and eight straight days of sunshine -- and so much more to tell.
There's still a trip report to write and post, but we just wanted to say Many Thanks to everyone who patiently helped us with our itinerary and the valuable suggestions for a once-in-a-lifetime vacation.
And, of course, special thanks to Michele for providing this amazing and helpful medium.
Back soon with more, Bill
PS If you're even THINKING about spending any time at all at Loch Lein in Killarney, hesitate no longer -- just go. You will never regret it.
Welcome home! I see that you enjoyed some of the lovely weather that I encountered too. Wasn't that wonderful? It sounds like you really liked Loch Lein Country House. I'm sure Annette and Paul treated you royally.
Get some rest and get over your jet-lag. We will await your trip report when you have the time.

Thanks for the friendly "welcome back", Michele -- it was a memorable trip, but I'm always glad to be back on home soil.
Loch Lein was indeed the lodging highlight of our trip -- and Paul and Annette are perfect hosts. We MISS them! We often spoke about everything (lodging-wise) being downhill after staying with them for five days. I know that I wouldn't even hesitate to stay there again. BTW, we did have dinner there one night and it was typically excellent. Paul is quite a chef, and he told me he's never been trained. What a great guy, tho. Annette brought all the kids (you know they have an infant, right? That's Beatrice -- 13 weeks old now and gorgeous) in on Sunday afternoon and we had a great time bantering with them.
Still developing the trip report and organizing the pictures. I took almost 700 pix, and am still winnowing. I will be posting the link for them soon, and I hope to have the report ready in another couple of days or so. Hard to believe there's so much to write about.
I smiled to read about the big gathering upcoming at Murphy's in Dingle -- would you believe I am wearing my Murphy's Pub T-shirt as we speak? One of my favorite acquisitions! (The fish n' chips were excellent, too.)
Thanks again for all your advice -- your help was invaluable and I only wish I had listened to ALL of your lodging suggestions.
I'm glad you enjoyed Loch Lein. I hope you took advantage of the special offer here and got your bottle of wine and lakeview room? Yes, I did know Paul and Annette have a new baby girl. I can't wait to meet Beatrice myself. I have enjoyed a lovely dinner before at Loch Lein and agree that Paul is excellent in the kitchen. I know quite a few people in Ireland who are self-taught chefs. Sometimes they put the "real" ones to shame.
I look forward to hearing the rest and also about the other lodgings that were not my suggestions.
Bill So glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Loch Lein. We are staying there for 3 nights in Sept. I see so many travellers recommending Kenmare, I was hoping we made a good decision.
Lindain ... I'll be filing my Trip Report soon with more kudos for Loch Lein. I can only say that everything Michele writes in her forum entry (the sticky) is absolutely true. I wish I could spend a month there.
