Michele, Is there any way one could call ahead to the Cliffs of Moher and find out how visibility is? My wife and I made the half day trek to and from the Cliffs only to find that when we got there we could not see our hands in front of our face. In fact, the visibilty was so bad we walked the whole perimeter of the parking lot until we found the entrance to the site.
Needless to say, we were very disappointed to not see the Cliffs, it was the thing I was looking most forward to on our trip. I wish I could have called so we could have not lost the half day driving out there and back.
I'm so sorry to hear that tha cliffs were fogged in for your visit. They are spectacular on a clear day. It is possible to phone them ahead of time to find out the conditions. See, you answered your own question!
Last year we stayed in Doolin for 3 days. Our B&B hosts, Joan & Martin Reilly (Dubhlinn House), kept us informed on the weather conditions. We had to wait to ferry out to Inisheer because of rough seas. The boat tour for the cliffs wasn't running becasue of the weather too. We waiting until our last day in doolin before we headed to Kinvara to see the clifs and the weather was perfect. Sadly, we didn't have time to take the boat tour, which was finally runing that day. AT least we got to see the cliffs.
