Back and BURIED

...under a mountain of paperwork at the job!

We got back late Sunday night. I'm just now adjusting to the time change.

I'm putting the final names to our photos and will post a link to them. My wife took 853 pictures. Ahh, where would we be without digital cameras now??

Marie, Helen, AprilMay - We're so sorry we missed you at Murphy's! We were there until 10:30 that night, listening to the duo performing. If you stood with your back to the bar, we were in the corner to the right of the lead singer. My kids are still laughing at the bassist with the spike in his lip. They laughed hysterically everytime he head butted the microphone!

I'll post a trip log as soon as possible. I just wanted to drop a quick note thanking everybody for all the help and tips and good wishes. We took you all there with us!

Bob, didn't get a chance to get to the Butter Road but my wife fell in love with Ireland and made me promise to take her back, just the two of us. No arm-twisting there, lol! So, that will be on our next itinerary.

Michelle, Joan at Rockside in Cashel says she hopes to see you on your next trip through and she's sorry you weren't able to stop in a few weeks back. She was absolutely wonderful and I'd highly recommend a stay with her and Rem...he's quite the breakfast cook! And, how can you possibly beat the view of The Rock from the B&B???

Back later, the grindstone is calling!

Chris

Chris,

Welcome back! I am happy to hear it was a good time and that you want to return again. If there is ever another meet-up planned I am going to print IrelandYes badges for everyone to wear. Then you will be able to find each other!

Take your time getting over your jet-lag and the shock of returning to work. I know your trip report will be worth the wait.

Michele

Welcome back.  Sorry to hear that the Get-Together fizzled.  At least, now, we know what pitfalls to anticipate ...  Glad to hear that you'll be going back.  Can't honestly say that I'm suprised, though.  biggrin

Don't feel too bad about the Butter Road - I STILL haven't driven the whol;e way, and I'm a BIG PROPONENT for that part of Co Cork!!!

I understand how busy/crazy things can be when you first get home, but I HAVE to ask about your car rental ...  weirdface

Did you actually get the Opel Zafira?  Was it as 'tight quartered' as I predicted?  I caught a LOT of flack, over on Fodors, when I wrote that the Zafira was too small for six adults with luggage.  A Couple of Zafira owners seem to have taken offence at my comments.  hmm hmm

Who knew that Opel owners were so loyal????  confused confused

Bob,

My husband has a 1973 VW Beetle. He is the original owner and has over a million miles on it. Now that is loyalty!!

Chris,
Sorry we missed you !! I knew that table w. all the blondes was yours I just could't figure out what to say after the waitress thought I was crazy for asking about a group or table for the american group... Jeff, my husband thought it was nuts too that I hadn't made better plans for knowing who was in the group... but we still had a good time.. Thanks for everyone's help on the Board, trying to get adjusted back to reality and my 2 jobs, and getting my husband out on a business trip this weekend.. so maybe soon I will get a REPORT posted...

Sorry we missed you guys but looked like you were having a Great TIme !! April

Yep, that was us!

Now you know why I've gone gray!

Next time (and there WILL be a next time), we'll be sure to set up a way to recognize each other!

Michelle, I smell an IrelandYes t-shirt/hat marketing niche looking to be filled!

Bob,

We did get the Zafira. It wasn't too bad for 5 people and 10 pieces of luggage. Each of us had a carryy-on and a slightly larger bag that we checked. It may have been a bit much but, with two weeks of clothes, souvenirs to bring back and a 50 lb limit on carry-ons, it was necessary.

There is no way to get 6 people into that comfortably and still have much room for baggage. Everyone would pretty much have to bring backpacks and that's it. Packing was like a Rubiks cube or, better yet, a large motorized Tetris game! It seats 6 and has room in the boot but not much. You'd need to seat 3 in the middle seat (as we did), drop the back seats and start stuffing.

We got pretty good gas mileage, only needed to refill 2.5 times, and still put 5700 km on it (if I remember correctly). Of course, averaging 35mph will help considerably. Irish Car Rentals started us off with a full tank and told me to bring it back empty, unlike most companies here.

Chris,

Good idea about the hats and T-shirts. I must look into that!

YIKES!

Aftre rereading my post, please let me revise the mileage. It was 1700km not 5700km. That was typo of epic porportions, lol. weirdface

Bartender! Another pint please!
