For our first trip to Ireland, we will be arriving from England via ferry into downtown harbor late the afternoon of Sept. 5th and we will be picking up our car from downtown office of Eurocar late the afternoon of the 7th. Are we better to bite the bullet and pay the price for a Dublin Central hotel for these two days or should we stay out a bit and take pubic transportation into town? We want to take advantage of our time, but stay in the best location. Michele is helping us with our itinerary but thought we'd better get the Dublin nights booked. We are reallyt looking forward to this trip - we will have 12 more days in Ireland, after Dublin.
Is the ferry booked yet? The reason I ask is that flights between England and Ireland are very cheap. Many times much cheaper than the ferry and much quicker.
If you are staying in Dublin without a car, you are better off to just bite the bullet, pay your money and stay in the city center so you have access to everything. The hop-on hop-off bus will be a good orientation tour of the city, giving you an advantage of being able to get on and off as you please for 24 hours. If you had a car I might recommend staying in Malahide especially if you are a light sleeper and are bothered by city noise. But without a car the city center is best.
Haven't booked the ferry yet. Found an Aer Lingus flight for $125 from Heathrow to Shannon. Thanks for the info. This will probably change itinerary, too.
