Traveling with 2 preteens - Northern route

Ok - just a little over 7 weeks to go!  Traveling Aug. 12th - 24th. Arriving Dublin and staying 2 nights.  Get car, drive to Portrush (I know it is a long drive, will stop here and there for breaks, but figure it is best bet).  Spend 2 nights - Giants Causeway, Rope bridge, Bushmills (for the hubby!) and whatever else we can do.  Leave morning of Aug. 17th and drive to Omagh, stopping at Ulster Folk Park and maybe the Beaghmore Stone circles.  Stay overnight in Omagh, next morning drive to Galway stopping at Marble Arch caves, maybe Castle Coole.  Arrive for 5 nights at husband's cousin in Galway (bumming free accomodations!) and doing daytrips to Cliffs of Moher/Aiwee caves, Aran Islands, tromping homelands in Caven, and Connemara.  Last night in Limerick, hoping to catch Bunratty show.  WHEW!  Did I bite off more than I can chew??  Hardest part was getting accomodations, but finally did!  Any input from those who know??  Kids are 11 and 12.  Thanks!weirdface

Maureen,

Looks like you are all set. On the drive up to Portrush, I suggest cutting through the middle of No. Ireland since you will see the Antrim coast on the next day. If you have time the kids will really enjoy Dunluce Castle. Also stop at all the overlooks and as many coves and beaches as you can.

The drive from Omagh to Galway will be a long driving day too. You might want to choose between the cave and Castle Coole. The kids would most likely enjoy cave more.

Book either Bunratty Castle Banquet or Bunratty Traditional Irish Night now. Go to my "Dining" page for the email address. These are very popular. If they are booked try for Knappogue Castle Banquet.

Thanks! You must spend so much of your time just reading all these posts...but I for one, really appreciate it!!! One more questions...I stumbled upon a discount "brocure" called Heritage Island that seems to offer quite a bit of attractions. Do you know anything about its reputability? It seems to have all the 2 for 1 and discounts for a lot of the places that we are planning to hit.

Thanks!

oops too quick on the send button. It is the Heritage Island ($5.99), not the Heritage Card ($55.00 for family). Thanks!

Maureen,

I am always happy to help those traveling to Ireland. That is what the forum is for. I think it is essential for those of us who have knowledge of Ireland to share with others. There is nothing as good as tips from someone who has already been there.

Heritage Island is legit. I use them all the time along with the Heritage Card. Since you have 4 people you will need 2 brochures.

FYI, everyone that orders my book or purchases a Deluxe Itinerary will now get a free Heritage Island brochure, subject to my supply lasting. I have added that info to my website recently.
