I will be flying out of Chicago on Aer Lingus. From what I've read on some reviews Aer Lingus charges for any meals and refreshments. Is this correct? Also will they allow you to bring your own snacks onboard? Another question, do they charge extra for your baggage? Thanks
If you go to the Air Lingus website it will give you the info you need: www.aerlingus.com Meals on transatlantic flights are free. You can bring snacks but there is a ban on carry on liquids over 4 oz. If you have excessive baggage or overweight luggage there may be an extra charge.
We flew out of O'Hare on Aer Lingus last month. They serve a snack, dinner and breakfast, no charge. There is a charge for alcoholic beverages. You can bring snacks on board, but no liquids. Go to www.tsa.gov for more imformation. We took empty water bottles past security and refilled them after security screening. Shannon did not allow even empty bottles.
We took large, heavy suitcases but under the 70 pound limit at no extra charge.
After 5 pm the security lines at O'Hare are minimal. Before that time according to tsa personal the lines are heavier. We left the gate on time for the 6:45pm flight, but taxied around the airport and sat for 1&1/2 hours waiting to take off. We were told that there were 25 planes ahead of us waiting to take off. So be prepared for delays at O'Hare, it's a very busy airport.
On the return flight from Shannon to Chicago we were served another dinner and a snack, left on time and we were 45 minutes early on arrival. However, even though going through US customs at Shannon, there was a long line at O'Hare to turn in our customs form that was stamped at Shannon.
