Hello We have our itinerary partially planned, however, I could use some suggestions:
This is definate:
Arrive Sat Sept 29th to Dublin~ stay for 3 nights We bought the Dublin pass and hop on hop off bus pass.
Thursday: Head to Monaghan We have tickets to see Christy Moore and are spending the night
Sat: Back to Dublin We have tickets to see The Police Spend Night
Sun: Leave Need suggestions:
Tue -Thurs We were thinking of going to Donegal from Dublin . Question should we rent a car right from Dublin OR fly and cut out some driving time and rent a car in Donegal..not sure if we would be missing alot by not driving.
Then we would explore Donegal and spend the night somewhere in the area , then on Wed. head down towards Sligo. The reason for Sigo is to spend the night in Markree Castle for the night. The next day head to Monaghan.
Friday we were thinking of going from Monaghan towards the coast towards Dundalk or Drogheda and spending the night in one of those areas before heading back to Dublin on Sat.
Anyway, if you have any other ideas, the only plans that are set in stone is first 2 days Dublin and Thursday Monaghan. We thought this may be an interesting route, but I am looking opinions and suggestions!
You are trying to do too much in too short a time. Also at the end of Sept the days are getting shorter. You will be in the car the whole time. Why don't you just spend a couple of days in Monaghan? From there you can to easy day trips around the area. It will save your being on the road the whole trip.
Also, consider Carlingford toward the end of your trip in addition to Drogheda or Dundalk. What were you planning on doing on that day?
