My husband and I will be arriving at Shannon in early November and have twelve days to tour the West and Southwest of Ireland. This is his first trip and my second trip to Ireland. I am aware of how long it takes to get from one point to another but am stiill going crazy trying to figure out the last half or our trip. Any suggestions anyone could give me would be really appreciated. So far our itinerary looks like this:
Monday Day One: Arrive Shannon at 9am Rent car and drive to Dingle. Overnight in Dingle
TuesdayDay Two: Explore Dingle Penninsula. Overnight in Dingle
WednesdayDay Three: Drive To Killarney. Explore Killarney Muckross House Overnight Killarney
Thursday Day Four: Ring of Kerry Overnight Killarney
FridayDay Five: Drive eastward toward Skibbereen and Mizen Head Stay ????????
Saturday Day Six: Kinsale ?? Stay in Kinsale overnight.
Days Seven, Eight, Nine, Ten: Here is where I really need helping on arranging the order of my remaining travel days! We would like to stay in the Galway Area and explore Connamara, Cong, and Galway (perhaps Adare, also) and stay either day nine or ten at the Ashford Castle.
Thursday Day Eleven:Travel back toward Shannon by way of Clliffs of Moher and The Burren. Overnight near Bunratty.
Friday Day Twelve: Leave Shannon in AM
We know we would like to stay at Heatons In Dingle and St. Martins B&B in Galway and take advantage of a special price at Ashford Castle on day 9 or 10. Any suggests on B&Bs for the remaining time would really be appreciated.
The drive down to Dingle from Shannon will probably take around 4 hours or more. It can be done on your first day but I just want to let you know that you will probably have to take some breaks to wake yourselves up on the drive. Adare is on the way and would make a nice stop.
Had you thought of reversing the order of your trip, going to Galway first (only 1 1/2 hours from Shannon)? Then you could proceed south. Just a thought.
As for where to stay Skibbereen would make a good overnight as well as Kinsale. I have a whole lot of recommendations on where to stay in my book and on my "Lodgings" page. Take a look!
Michele, My husband wanted to see Dingle first so we already made reservations at Heatons. Do you have any recommendations on how to arrange the order of Galway, Cong, Connamarra end of our trip? Marnie
You can easily spend three days in Galway and another night at Ashford Castle. Since it is a long drive from Kinsale up to Cong, it would make more sense to do your Galway stay first. That would mean a much shorter drive to Cong giving you a full day to enjoy the castle and estate.
If you did not want 3 days in Galway had you thought of going through Cahir and Cashel on your way north?
