Can you purchase gasoline for your rental car with a bank credit card (Visa, Mastercard, etc.) or do you have to use cash(EUROS)?

Merle is spot on. Credit cards are accepted at petrol stations and most other places in Ireland. Some B&Bs don't take them but you should know that in advance.
