we'll we just found out that we have to change our itinerary .my question is after landing at shannon from the states, how grueling will the drive to dublin be on the same day(3 drivers). we are trying to avoid the galway races .landing at dublin is not an option with our flight package. many thanks for your time and friendliness. our tentative is itinerary is dublin, kinsale, kenmare, dingle ,galway then 1 night at either ennis or bunratty for the flight home dates are july 28-august 11
The drive to Dublin will be a problem from the standpoint of arriving in / having to deal with Dublin traffic at the END of a longish drive AND having to deal with having a car while IN Dublin.
As ONE alternative, why not START your visit in Kinsale, loop around to Galway and take the train into Dublin from there? Altermately, you could take the bus from Shannon into Limmerick (or Galway) and then train into Dublin, waiting to pick up your rental car (in Dublin) when you are ready to leave.
I'm sure others may have differing / other / better ideas , but these are some quick, off-the-top-of-my-head thoughts to get you started...

Bob has thought of the problems and solutions. Although many people say the drive from Shannon to Dublin only takes 3 hours it always takes me 4+ hours. The plus is for Dublin traffic. So it depends on where in Dublin you end. It would be a problem having to deal with a car in Dublin unless you stay on the outskirts and they have parking. Public transportation to Dublin is a good idea. Let me know if you want more info about that.
As for avoiding the Galway Races it is only a problem in Galway City and immediate area like Salthill. If you planned on staying elsewhere, no problem.
Your vacation dates include a Bank Holiday on Aug 4. Good idea to have reservations for that weekend Aug 1-3. In fact in July/Aug I would have definite reservations everywhere.
