PASSPORT RENEWAL

My pass port is due to expire this September.  Since our plans for 2008 include another June trip (Which is less than six months from the 'Expiration Date', I've decide to renew it now, to hopefully avoid the 'Last Minute Delay Jitters'.  I know it was pretty horrible LAST year, but SUPPOSEDLY, it is much improved, now.  Has anybody had any RECENT experience with this?

On another, slightly dissimilar note, I REALLY can't believe that it's been almost TEN YEARS!!!! since I eagerly opened that new, first-ever passport and gazed down upon the photo of that young, handsome (well, passably decent-looking --- OK, hmm hmm OK --- not TOTALLY hideous  weirdface ) man!

I just compared my NEW photos to my old passport pix.  Who the H_ _ _ is this OLD GUY?  And, what did he do with the 'Real' me????

Now, I know that this shouldn't come as a big shock to any of YOU, since I loaded my avatar, but it REALLY did kinda 'Sneak Up' on ME!

I can't speak to renewals, but I got a passport for the first time a couple of months ago.  I sent everything off at the end of November, and the passport arrived just over three weeks later.  So it looks like everything is running much better now.

Bill,

LOL!     Where does the time go and how did I get old? I got my first passport when in my early 20s. Since then I have had umpteen renewals. When comparing my first passport photo to my current one I believe I am actually looking at my mother.  Nooooo, it can't be me!

As they say, enjoy growing old. Many are denied the privilege.

I'm glad to hear from BBaker that the passport process has gotten back to normal. I renewed in Jan 2007 and didn't get mine for many months. Fortunately it arrived 2 weeks before my trip. Over three months.

Bob,  I sent my renewal in on Jan 5th and was floored when I received it a week later.   No expedited fees paid...John

Thanks for all the good news about improved 'turn-around' time.

On a different note:

After getting my new, 'Old Man' pictures for my Passport application, my wife and I decided to catch a movie while we were out and about.

Imagine my chagrin to discover that I now qualify for the SENIORS discount! hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm hmm

And imagine how it felt when the ticket seller didn't CHALLENGE my eligibility!!!!

Bob,

Get used to it!  biggrin  I am not actually at the official senior age yet but when they see my silver hair I get senior discounts automatically. It does have some benefits. My local grocery store has a 5% discount on groceries on Wednesday. Many sightseeing attractions in Ireland give a senior discount. If you are over 55 you can get Golden rates at many accommodations.

I guess on either end of the spectrum (being a child or a senior) we get the discounts. Can't complain about that. What will be a problem is over 75 can't rent a car in Ireland. confused  I guess we will all become experts on public transportation.

Just a note to say that new passports arrived this past Tuesday.  So our experience wasn't QUITE as good as those recently mentioned, but it was still not TOO traumatic.

Bob,

Glad to hear you now have your new passport. There's no telling what angst your next passport photo will bring! Let's just hope we are all still traveling to Ireland ten years hence.
