Thanks Michele for the warning. Go figure, we leave for Shannon on the 28th. Yesterday I found out that if I booked the tickets now (instead of in Jan), I'd save almost $200 (oh well). Now I hear that I might not be able to fly at all. And to think all I was worried about was the weather (it's been snowing steady since about 2am).
Sorry to hear that Feb 28 is your travel date. But at least you will not be surprised by it and will be prepared for whatever happens. Let us know how it goes.
Hi Michele, Since Dave and I fly from Portland, Oregon on the 28 and are to arrive in Shannon Friday at 6 a.m., what happens if they do go on strike? I am very unfamiliar with this circumstance. Would our tickets be no good if we have to wait till the next day to fly out? I just don't know what happens......help, please. We were stranded in Chicago for the day we were to be in Shannon -- missed our connection by 45 minutes. They put us on a plane the next day at 4 p.m. so we lost a day in Ireland. Since we have a full month, this time, I am just curious what may happen? Thank you for any help you can give us. Youngka

Often here these threats are averted, so keep a watch. This happened re a postal strike a while ago and it was settled at the eleventh hour. They seem to have tried all else, as the postal workers also had done. The threat of the strike then was enough to make others climb down.
Contact your airline for info about flying during a strike. If it occurs the airline will try to get you to Ireland ASAP. It could be the next day. Your tickets would still be good since it is an action outside of the control of you and the airline. Check with the airline before going to the airport.
Hi, this is from the news today on the site that Michele suggested. Air traffic controllers cancel planned one day strike 25/02/2008 - 13:47:32
Story Navigation:
Air traffic controllers have called off their threat to mount a one day strike this Thursday as part of their dispute with the Irish Aviation Authority.
Hundreds of flights would have been grounded if the stoppage went ahead.
However, the IMPACT trade union has called off the strike as it continues to hold discussions with the Irish Aviation Authority at the Labour Court this afternoon.
The union says a resolution is still a long way off, but it agreed to suspend the action at the request of the chairman of the Labour Court.
It has also rejected allegations by the IAA that the dispute centres on money rather than staff shortages.
