The adaptor thread reminded me of my latest "gadget" question.
I didn't have a digital camera the last time I went to Ireland, so I just took along one spare battery for my old camera. I use rechargeable batteries in my digital. Will it be fairly easy to pick up a battery charger that works on Irish current while I'm there? Is it safe to plug my recharger from home into a converter?
Can y'all tell how little I know about this techological stuff?
It is always cheaper to buy things at home rather than in Ireland. I had a digital camera that was very fussy about the type of batteries it would accept. If you buy one now you can be sure everything is in working order and ready for your trip. Best to prepare everything you can ahead of time.
Thanks, Michele! I bought a charger with my first set of batteries--same day I bought the camera, in fact. I just wasn't sure if it was safe to plug my US charger into a converter that would fit an overseas outlet. I was thinking that buying a charger in Ireland (I did some poking around online, and Energizer--the brand of charger and batteries I have--sell the same kind of charger I have, just with an Irish/UK-friendly plug.) would be a way to safely charge the batteries. It looks like I can indeed use a converter, though, which seems to definitely be the less expensive option. Very cool.
The charger/adapter Dude brought with the digital camera ( thank you again Italian Chauffeuer and Dude for this wonderful gift) works fine.
One we brought in from the US with the laptop however did not work ( adapter I mean) and we then bought one very cheaply in a small electrical shop in Killybegs that works fine.
A previous landlady once lent us a food mixer that had a two pin plug. When we asked how she managed she said she stuck a pencil in the third hole. Needless to say we did not try that... Blessings
We purchased the (I think this is what it was called) Europe Travel Pac direct from Kodak's website. It included a storage chip, universal adapter and charger, bag and batteries, I think.Maybe a tripod? But now I don't find it on their website. Maybe we got the last one.
