1st timer with multiple inquiries!!

Just booked a week long trip for the last week of April and now the questions begin.....

It is a package so fly into Shannon and out of Dublin, lodging first and last night is taken care of which leaves four nights of "voucher" B & B, we did go the Town and Country B&B route if that makes a difference. I've read the thread on why vouchers aren't the best way to go but it's too late to change so any help on making the most of them would be appreciated. Can the tourist offices tell you which B&B's accept and which won't?  Also, since it's the end of April and the real tourist season hasn't started I assumed most places would like someone, even a voucher, rather than nothing, true/false?

Part of the fun sounds like exploring, research, reading and deciding what you'd like to do BUT the map available if you used the itenarary service sounded very helpful as a reference. Would all of the points of interest, pubs, B&B's included on the map be in Micheles book (haven't ordered but will very soon) but just need to be culled out yourself? (It appears to only be an add on if using the itenarary planning to me)

Mark,

Welcome to my forum! You should get a booklet with your vouchers listing which B&Bs accept them. You can also look at the Town & Country website: www.townandcountry.ie It indicates which B&Bs take vouchers and which do not.

The first Monday in May is a Bank Holiday. That means May 2, 3, 4 & 5 is a long weekend. Don't know if you will be there then but thought you should know. It may not be the "real" high tourist season of July & August but will be busy enough. You will be able to use your vouchers.

I am not clear on your questions about my mapping and itinerary services. I do a customized map with your route highlighted, overnight stays flagged and points of interest (sightseeing) indicated. You can order it separately from an itinerary. I do two different types of itineraries. A Budget Itinerary does not include a map. A Deluxe Itinerary does include the map. You can read more about it on this page: http://www.irelandyes.com/itinerary.html You can also email me for more info. I do have individual maps in my book as to how to find the B&Bs (or directions where appropriate).

If you can clarify your questions I will be happy to answer. Or if you have others let me know.

Michele

Thanks for the reply and the welcome!

I have looked at the Town and Country site but didn't notice any voucher comments, I'll have to look again, thank you.

Sorry for being obtuse on the mapping question, all I was asking was if the mapping service was available without doing an itinerary.  After re-reading the page I can now see it is only an add on if you do the budget itinerary.  I have a feeling that most questions will be answered as far as pubs, sites and B&B's through research and paging through your guide book.

We are most interested in the off the beaten path sites then the standard tourist sites. Standard tourist sites are good but going a little out of your way to see a truly unique site is much more fun when you look back on a trip.

I'm sure as we proceed with our planning you'll be seeing more questions and thank you for this bit of help.

Side note, since your shipping address is Georgia I believe, I hope the storms  haven't hit you as they have Atlanta and all is safe!!

Mark,

Thanks for your concern about the weather here. I am in the suburbs north of Atlanta. Lots of rain and thunderstorm/tornado warnings and sirens but so far okay. Downtown got clobbered last night. Today places north of me got the brunt. More weather is moving in later. Stay tuned.

You can order just a map if you want. You don't have to get an itinerary. It is $20 for that service: http://www.irelandyes.com/map.html

I see that Town & Country has a new website and is not listing vouchers on it. Instead go to: http://www.tandctrade.com/ In the search box you can choose "Vouchers Accepted".

You are correct that I have listings in my book for B&Bs, guesthouses, hotels, pubs, restaurants, sightseeing, day trips, and a whole lot more. You can also ask specific questions here if you need a recommendation.

Thanks Michele!! New website works perfect for vouchers!!

Once we have our nightly stops thought out I will do the map request. Will our starting point, chosen nightly stops and ending point be the required info? Also, I assume it would be OK to send one check requesting the 2008 book and a route map? Planning is half the fun but having an experienced traveler confirm or change what we've thought out would be invaluable.

Mark,

This is the info I need to do your mapping:
  • Your itinerary with overnight stays and daily sightseeing
  • Any special drives and/or routes you want to take
  • Any roads you want to avoid
  • Special needs you might have that would impact the chosen route
I don't make any changes to your itinerary with the mapping. I stick strictly to what you have outlined and want to do. Before you request the map be sure you have an itinerary you want for your trip.

You can certainly send a check for the map and book combined. Just include a note indicating that.
