Making the most of it

I am planning a trip to Ireland (10 days-late june to early july) with my two teenagers.
I am working with a very tight budget but want to take advantage of this opportunity. I thought we would lodge in three or four locations and travel from there. I have to start making reservations but I'm feeling more than a little overwhelmed! Any advice would be welcome. Thank you!
We will be in England with relatives and plan on being in Ireland from 6/28 -7/7.
I thought we would rent a car. My children are 16 & 14. They enjoy music, hiking, art and almost anything new to them.

The people on this forum will be happy to assist, but we will need a lot more information before we can provide any INTELLIGENT insite:

What are your interests?  Antiquities, scenery, music, museums, urban or country life?????

How old are the teens?  What are THEIR interests?

Have you traveled overseas, before?  To Ireland?

Do you have a specific LINK to Ireland -- an area, a county, a town?

How many days?  Does your 10 days INCLUDE travel, or will you be 'on the ground' for 10?

Dublin is VERY interesting, but generally MUCH more expensive than the West.  Do you need to include DUB?

Have you booked your flights?  It can dramatically affect your itinerary, so ideally, you should have a rough plan before you do.

Renting a car, or public transportation??

It is certainly wise to plan as quickly as possible, as you are going there during the most expensive, heavilly travelled time of the year, and the phrase "on a tight budget" and Ireland don't mix well right now thanks to the dollar's fall against the Euro.  My advice would be to focus on B&Bs for your lodging -- normally MUCH CHEAPER than hotels, or perhaps do some self-catering so you can do some of your own cooking.  Do you have your air fare yet?  eyepopping.gif  That also is going to be higher this summer thanks to all the gas prices soaring.

I know I'm not painting a nice picture, but planning ahead can save you some expenses if you do it right.
