Cottages in Kenmare area?

Hi,

We are planning to book a self catering cottage in Kenamre for one week as a base to tour southwest Ireland. Is there a cottage in the area anyone can recommend? I've spent a lot of time searching and have found many cottages, except there isn't many reviews to be found. Finding a place just feels kind of random. It would be nice to find a recommeded place we can feel confident about.

Thanks for any help!

CSun,

Welcome to my forum! May I ask when you are going to Ireland? I have rented a cottage near Kenmare for later this year and if it turns out to be nice I will report back.

You are right that there are a lot of cottages near and in Kenmare. Many of them are new. Last year they were building a lot of them near the Kenmare Bay Hotel. I just looked at the website and they are rather pricey.

Look for a cottage with a rating of 4-stars. That is the highest rating for the Republic of Ireland. You may want one within walking distance of Kenmare - and there are plenty that are.

Michele,

Thanks for reply. We are planning on staying there the last week of May so we need to book in the next few days. I think we'll end up booking a place in or right next to town.

CSun,

Sorry I can't be of more help with self-catering. More and more people are doing that in Ireland and I have recently started doing it more. I can tell you where I am staying. It is Doire Farm Cottages between Kenmare and Kilgarvan: http://www.kenmareholidaycottages.com/

I also have my eye on one near town but have not seen it yet: http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/ireland/IR6.htm

Will you let us know what you finally decide on?

Michele
