Bunratty Castle

My ? about Bunratty castle.   If I would like to do a morning  tour of the castle, do they charge extra $$ or would it be part of admission with the Folk Park.
If a tour is given, what time would the castle open in the morning.
thanks for any info.

Although I'm not sure, it seems like the Folk Park was not an extra price.  You just sort of wander around there on your way to and from the castle.  There is even a "working pub" on the grounds.  Loved that description when I saw it recently!

Gary, check this out: http://tinyurl.com/5d3rks . The Castle and the Folk Park are one entity so no extra charge. I was amazed at how much of a discount we OAP's receive. Kinda makes up for the disadvantages of getting old!

To my knowledge, there are no tours, but get the map and do your own!

Gary,

As everyone has said, admission to Bunratty Castle includes the folk park. Enjoy!

Ah, thanks for the good info.
But now I'm curious what the minimum age is to use the OAP discount.
Dude, would you know??

Here is the Castle / Folk Park website:
http://www.shannonheritage.com/Attractions/BunrattyCastleFolkPark/BunrattyCastleFolkParkOpeningTimes/

They don'y specify what age qualifies for the OAP discount, but the Heritage Card application form lists adults at 21 Euro and 'Senior citizens (over 60)' on
www.heritageireland.ie .

Now, Bunratty is NOT part of the Heritage Card scheme, but I IMAGINE that the OAP and Senior Discounts are based upon similar requirements.

Here's a list of what the Heritage Card DOES cover, though:

Any time I have used the OAP discount, the cutoff was 60. What's sad is when they ask! Hee hee.

Gary,

Usually if you ask for a senior admission they will give it to you. Either that or I look really old! Must be my silver hair.

Dude --

I guess it all depends upon your perspective ---

What HURTS, is when they give it to you, without asking ....

I suppose you're right, Bob. But see, I have saved the cost of coloring my hair all these years and now it is getting me a discount. Wonder where all that money went?

you guys are making me laugh in my chair.   But Dude has a point about coloring.  Sorry I got this topic into a cosmopolitan segway.   Since I'll miss 60
by a few months it might be worth the cost saving of skippng my Just for Men
mustache re-doo.   The OAP is a pretty good savings for the sacrifice.

So Michele, that combined with wearing glasses and maybe my Donegal hat, I'll give the Senior statement a try.biggrin

Gary,

Just to confuse things more Ireland has "golden breaks" at various hotels and guesthouses. It is for over 55s and is generally a lower rate on a 2 or more nights stay.

ooh, that's good to know.   We'll be staying at the Holiday Inn express Dublin airport hotel to and from Sweden.  Although not consecutive nights maybe
they could  do something.  every Euro counts this day and age.
