Four days in Ireland

Hi,

I just bought my tickets to Ireland today and was lucky enough to come across this forum -- I can tell it will be invaluable!  In scanning through past postings, it looks like most people visit for a lot longer than I am able to.  My boyfriend and I are flying into and out of Dublin, arriving on a Sunday morning and leaving the following Sunday.  We'd like to spend four days in Ireland, take a quick flight to Edinburgh, spend 2-3 days there, and then return to Dublin for one last night before we fly home.  Can anyone recall any itineraries people have posted for shorter trips?  If not, where would you go if you wanted to leave Dublin but only had a few days to travel and take everything in?

Also, is it possible to rent a car in Dublin but drop it off in another city?  It would be ideal if we could do that and then fly to Edinburgh from another city without having to double back to Dublin.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Ashley

Welcome to Michele's site! It is a very good one. If I am understanding you right, you have bought your tickets in and out of Dublin? If you aren't, you could go from Dublin to Galway by train, I believe that is what my son did, see quite a bit in Western Ireland, then leave Shannon and fly to Edinburgh. There is a lot to see around both airports. We mostly go the West Coast and go from the Galway area to: Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, see The Buren and historical sites, and go North of Galway to Clifden, Roundstone & Kylemore Abby. I am sure you will get a lot of responses and suggestions from other posters. Have a really good time and see the most you have without getting too tired! Galway itself has a lot to offer. But you can work your way down to Shannon and then take off to Edinburgh. Youngka

Ashley,

Welcome! In four days you will get a tiny taste of Ireland. Most people take two days for Dublin especially if you are arriving off an all night flight. For your other two days you could consider going south to Co. Wicklow or down to Kilkenny. It all really depends on what your interests are. If you only did two nights on the road you could pick up your car when departing Dublin and drop it off again there.

Give us more info and we can fine-tune things.
