Tour too quick?

I am new to this forum, but the information I have found tonight has been trip changing. Basically my wife and I (mid 20's) are traveling to Ireland for 5 days (last week of October) on our way to visit my brother at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. We want to see as much as possible in Ireland, but after reading a lot of posts I am worried that we are cramming too much in and thereby seeing less while trying to see more, if that makes any sense. Here is what we wanted to do:

Day 1: Arrive Shannon in the AM. Head to Galway via Newmarket on Fergus, start seeing Galway (cliffs of moher especially)
Day 2: Finish seeing Galway start heading towards Limerick and Tipperary (Cashel)
Day 3: Drive to Kerry and see either the Ring of Kerry or the Dingle Peninsula, stay in Kilarney
Day 4: See Kilarney, drive to Cork
Day 5: Early drive to Waterford, Wicklow and end in Dublin
Day 6: Flight out of Dublin

Out of all of these things I think the Dublin day is the craziest, but I could definitely be wrong. From what we have heard from friends and family we are not worried about missing out on Dublin, we would rather spend that time seeing the other things on this list. Also, there aren't really any "we have to see this" items either, we are very adaptable and would love some input from people who know what they are talking about, which is most definitely not us!

Anyway, thanks in advance for your help, and thanks for all of the information that you have assembled here. I am so glad that we found this site, it seems like it will be a great resource from now until the day we leave!

Dave,

Welcome to my forum! I'm glad you found it and that it is already helping you think about slowing down a bit.

One thing to consider the last week of October is the short days. The sun will set before 5 pm. Ireland is not a place you want to be driving around at night unless it is just a short hop from your accommodation to a restaurant and back. You really need to be checked in before dark. I

t does make perfect sense that in Ireland "less is more". Will you arrive in Ireland after an all night flight? If so you may want to trim down your first day. Perhaps Galway could be cut out on this trip?

Were you planning on Cork City? If so, it is not the most attractive place in Ireland.

You may want more nights around Killarney. It is an area of great natural beauty and well situated for seeing the ROK and Dingle. Each of them takes an entire day. The Killarney area takes another day.

Cashel is only about 2 1/2 hours from Dublin. Perhaps your next to last night there instead of a marathon drive through Waterford and Wicklow?
