Michele-Which of these seaside towns would be a good place to spend the evening. We are looking for a place where we can find a light dinner and take a stroll by the water. The distence between the two doesn't matter, just looking for quaint. We are leaving in one week Friday the 13th,it will be a lucky day for us.
Not sure I would consider either location really quaint, as Dun Laoghaire has one of the largest harbours in the country and is a big car ferry route to the UK. It is a really neat area and kind of interesting for sure. Bray is actually I believe one of the larger communities in Ireland, so quaint may not apply there either.
Just a thought, but for something quaint and smaller you might consider Enniskerry which is nearby. It is quite nice and perhaps you saw the TV series (Ballykissangel) that was filmed there.
Whatever you select, I'm certain you'll find plenty to enjoy for sure! Have a wonderful trip.
Either one will do although there are not a lot of places to stay around there. Tell me where it fits into your itinerary. Will it be your first day, last day, a place to see Dublin from via DART. If you give more info about your choice we can help better.
Thanks Sidz I guess what I am looking for is a town like Dingle.Maybe there is only one Dingle. I am thinking a seaside resort will have things to do later in the evening, since things tend to close early. We are traveling with our kids and our pub time will be limited. Susan
Hi Michele Posting at the same time. This would be one of our last days, just looking for a place to hang out and walk around for the night(not spend the night). We will be driving. Susan
I suggest Malahide instead. It is a smart, upscale but cute village that you can feel comfortable walking around. It is small enough that you can easily walk over to the seafront and take a stroll. There are good restaurants and pubs. Cruzo is a restaurant that is right on the harbor and while not inexpensive it might fit the bill.
You will not find Dingle on the east coast. It is unique!
I share your thought on Dingle -- yes, there is only one place like it, which I why I always find a way to go there for a day or two every trip I take there.
